2012-04-11 - Pre-Race Jitters, YIKES!

Yo run gang,

YIKES! It's the feeling I get when race day draws near, for every race, no matter how important or insignificant the event is to me. Even after all these years, the nervous jitters attack! Many of you will be experiencing the same feelings this weekend as you line up for one of the events at the Martian Invasion on Saturday or the Big House Big Heart on Sunday.

The reality is that your race is personal, you are the only one who cares about the outcome so the feelings we are having should only be from our concerns, no, the world is not watching and no one else really cares. Our training is done or not done, we are either healthy or on the mend with hope and our strategy is pretty much set so being nervous is unproductive stress. I find that reminding myself of the reality of the situation reduces my race anxiety from YIKES! to ... yikes and maybe reading this will do the same for you.

Yikes,

Randy Step, an obsessed runner who continues to make strides against irrational pre race feelings ... More work to do.

PS: Check out martianmarathon.com and bighousebigheart.com, it's too late to enter online but  both events offer late registration at their great pre race expos along with great shopping deals! Just think of all the stress you missed by not entering until now!

March 16, 2011 - Nervous steps into Spring!

I always get a kick out of runners who take to the streets and seem to bloom like wildflowers on the first nice weather days. For those of us who have kept our winter outdoor running vigil alive through sleet, gale force wind, snow and dark of night, we can secretly smile with a smug feeling of superiority and satisfaction as we wave and say hello. Ha!

The truth is, what we put into and take from our running is very personal and we don't really know what that new runner we see out there is experiencing. Perhaps they are taking those first brave and nervous steps into the fitness world and that are about to get the satisfaction we all got that time we finally got up the courage to start! Bravo and a high five to all! Runners Rock!

Please join us on April 2nd at the Martian Invasion of Races as we cheer each other on, fulfilling  our personal goals, be they finishing a run/walk through our first 5K or a personal best marathon. We will party together at the finish line as one big happy fitness community, planting the seeds in the sedentary world who watch and stand in awe of us all! Enter at martianmarathon.com

May you run forever,

Randy Step, and obsessed runner and Alien at heart, Nanu, Nanu!

March 30, 2011 - Time to breathe...

Yo run gang,

As runners, we drink a lot more fluid and consume more calories than those who are sedentary. That said, our risk of health problems due to taking in chemicals, pharmaceuticals and whatever other impurities there are in our food and water may also be greater. In addition, we suck in a lot more air that is filtered by our lungs than the average couch potato.  I believe we need to keep this in mind and look to run away from busy roadways and dirty air and look for sources of healthy food and pure water, we need to be aware.

This may sound like a shameless plug but ... We have Absopure Water delivered and available at all the Running Fit stores and in our corporate office. I believe it's a healthy, inexpensive perk to offer our staff and customers. It's not sponsored water; we pay Absopure for it and are happy to support a Michigan based company that is also the 4th largest plastic recycler in the country (They recycle here in Dundee, MI).  But yes, I admit, the water you drink at all the Running Fit events is pure water from Absopure, delivered to us at no charge from our sponsor!  Thank you Absopure for your support of the running community!

Run smart,

Randy Step, an obsessed runner, headed to run a trail where the air is fresh and clean ... And yes, with my Fuel Belt on filled with pure water.
