2015-05-20 - Core strength

randy sunglassesWith so many things in life, including our running, we don't know what we've got till it's gone. I'm just back to running regularly after a month off with an I.T. band pain. Now that I'm off the bench, I'm working on my core and doing all the strength exercises we should all be doing to run injury free. All the non-aerobic stuff many of us neglect to do while all seems to be going well. The reality is, we can't have hard days without putting in easy or rest days and we all pretty much know when we are crossing the line and flirting with disaster ... or perhaps it's just me?

Run smart,

Randy Step, and obsessed runner, who now and then pays the price, dang.

2015-05-13 - Tears and Strength

randy sunglassesMemorable days that stick with us forever are precious and all too few. As I worked the finish line at the Martian Invasion of Races, I saw radiant smiles, tears of joy, tears of pain and expressions of emotions way over the top, like runners falling to their knees in prayer, kissing the ground and the raising of fists like in the Rocky movie. For sure I was witnessing life long memories being stored, memories that will be revisited throughout life to once again bring smiles, tears and strength.

The daily run, our daily bread gets us by, reaching our goals makes us fly.

Dream, plan, commit, run,

Randy Step, an admitted obsessed runner who lives to cross finish lines and with the  Crew at Running Fit Events, to create finish lines for others to cross.

2015-05-06 - Stay calm and run on

randy sunglassesWe run for a lot of reasons, for many of us, one reason is to escape the stress of our busy lives. That said, our running should never be a cause of stress, if it is, it's time to step back and assess the reason why and work it out before our next run. No matter how slow, how fast or how far off we land from our running goals, we must keep in mind that this is how we spend our leisure time, the most precious hours of our day. As my wise friend John A. always says, "if it's not fun, don't do it!" Each healthy day we can get out for a run is a gift. The world news is a reminder of how fortunate most of us are, while so many are dealing with famine, war, terrorism, genocide and diseases like Leukemia, here we are, worrying about missing out on an age group award, a Boston qualifying time or getting in our minimum number of steps, miles or whatever on our fitness app, duh. The news should be a daily reminder for us to appreciate every run and even if the run sucks, we should find a smile to share with the world!

Stay calm, run and smile,

Randy Step, an admitted obsessed runner ... who once again is writing this to remind myself how lucky I am.
