Our sport is primarily a solitary endeavor with lots of miles, often at about the same pace. These daily runs, just as they are, reward us mentally and physically. That said, signing up, and lining up for a race, can add a rich layer to running that includes more focus on time, distance, speed, and dare I say it, competition. Perhaps not competition in the sense of beating others, but to see just how the rest of the world runs and where our run pace lands. In a race, we push ourselves and attempt to be the best we can be, the race is a place to learn, it is a place of self-discovery. Just having a race on the calendar can add so much to the daily run, perhaps pushing us to a new level. Dig it! If you have not, pick an event and sign up, then get your butt out that door with even more purpose.
