2013-04-24 - Run smart

Yo run gang,
April 24, 2013

Randy...The serenity of the run continues to smooth out the roller coaster of emotions and setbacks in life, we are sure lucky to be runners. That said, every healthy running day is precious and we must keep vigilant to stay in a state of health that allows us, not only to run but to be able to help others in time of crisis, to be the ones to assist and not to be the ones who need assistance. Let's train smart, race smart and do the core work to make this happen, again, not just to help ourselves but to help the world!

Spring is a time when it's easy to run too far and too fast, let's try to keep the increase in weekly mileage to no more than 10% and to ease into speed with proper warm up and cool down.

Run Smart, fun forever,

--Randy Step, an obsessed runner who pretty much writes this stuff based on what I need to hear and do at this time of year! Less is more ... Dang.

PS: A run/walk in the woods is good for the body and soul, join us in Pinckney this weekend, the weather is looking perfect for this running rite of spring! On trails, your time and pace becomes insignificant, you can literally stop and smell the flowers, walk up the hills and even down some hills, for that matter. You need this, join us for 5, 13.1 or more miles, not in shape, not to worry, hikers welcome! See trailmarathon.com

April 2, 2008 - I need core strength to keep healthy and on the road.

Yo run gang,

As an obsessed runner, closet triathlete and aging athlete, now, more than ever I need core strength to keep healthy and on the road but more than ever, I dont enjoy doing the non aerobic stuff. Ive got all the tricks to get myself out the door, can anyone share some tricks on getting us all to do planks, squats and other strength and flexibility work? Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your magic tricks and Ill share them!

Needed - heroes behind the scenes. Its estimated that only 5% of runners who enter races have ever volunteered to work an event. I dont think its because runners are not generous but that its more lack of knowledge about signing up to volunteer and what that might entail. I believe its like entering your first race, the first time you sign up it is a huge step into the unknown, once you do it, youre hooked. Being part of a race crew playing a part of putting on a successful event can be as rewarding as competing in it. Check out www.trailmarathon.com and join us behind the scenes at one of this years events!

My last Alien Plug The weather is looking good for the weekend, come join me in Dearborn for the Meteor 10K or Martian Marathon or Half Marathon and an out of this world expo! www.martianmarathon.com.

Get out and run!

December 22, 2010 - Stay Calm...

Yo run gang,

The holidays are a great time to share the gift of running, walking, moving. After the big holiday dinner, invite everyone outside for a walk around the block. Like getting out the door for the run, it never sounds great but once they finish, everyone will be happy and fulfilled because they did; share the feeling.

The holidays are a good time to be nursing a running injury ... NOT, it's never a good time! Time for CORE, CORE, CORE, yoga, and all those other insufferable non-aerobic activities! Can you tell I'm a bit frustRATED!!! Time for a deep breath, sure, it could be worse. Sure, like saying, Mrs. Lincoln, sorry about your loss ... but how did you enjoy the play? I needed to get that out of my system, sorry for the rant ... I'll be just fine. For those of you gimping out there, grief shared is grief diminished, I hope this cheered you up!

Enjoy every healthy day!

Randy Step, an obsessed runner, taking long, nose breathing, cleansing breaths ... Namaste
