May 28, 2008 - I love my daily run and everything it does for me.
Yo run gang,
I love my daily run and everything it does for me. I also love the experience of giving it my all on race day and being totally spent a race day requiring a taper before, then recovery days after, cutting into the joy of my daily run . A dilemma. Not a big deal when it comes to shorter events but when running a marathon, its brutal. Im reminded of this today as I still continue to nurse muscle soreness from the weekends marathon, rather than hitting the trail for 8 miles or so on this glorious day, darn. A strange thought, I love running too much to race too often.
For those of you running from Dexter to Ann Arbor this weekend, I wish you well! A great event, a great tradition. Stop by Running Fit (On the corner of 4th and Liberty, one block east of Main) after your race for our annual race weekend sale. Get a free race picture if you find yourself! We take about 2,000 random pictures and have the prints up around 1PM race day.
Enjoy every healthy day,
Randy Step
August 5, 2009 - Invite (Trick!) a non running friend to enter a 5K with you.
Yo run gang,
Last week on vacation I had one of those magic days where my family all ran together in a 5K from beginning to end. Running truly is a gift, and one that we can share. Invite (Trick!) a non running friend to enter a 5K with you. Enter a race that has walkers and promise you will stay with them from beginning to end, walking, running, whatever. Explain that the intimidation of entering an event is a huge obstacle. One that they will realize DOES NOT EXIST once they enter and see its just people of every shape and age, walking, running, plodding and having fun! A simple 5K can be a catalyst in creating a life long runner.
To continue on that thread, I have the perfect event for you to share, and a chance to wear that little back dress! Im always looking for an excuse to wear my tux, so join me Wednesday, September 9th at the Red Carpet Run, a dress up run with Glitz, Glamour, Paparazzi and Star Treatment! Starting with a pre race strut around the Red Carpet to check out your fellow dashing dashers before the run. Finish on the Red Carpet where you will receive a custom finishers Champagne flute and party and dance the night away! Check out: www.redcarpetrun.com and trick, talk, your friends into the fun!
For those of you in Travers City this Friday, check out the sidewalk sale at Running Fit on Front Street! For the rest of us stuck downstate Get out and run!

2013-06-12 - Double dipping on the run
My usual long runs are on Friday morning due to the fact that I'm in the retail and event business and work most weekends. Last Friday on the trail I met up with a couple ministers getting in their long run due to their weekend jobs. One of them I knew, the other I just met. Of course I joked with them about to be able to run anytime because they only work one hour a week. Ha. We both made comments about what a glorious morning it was for a run, they also mentioned they were training for Running Fit's fall event, Run Woodstock, hence, long runs on the trail.
We head out and run for play, for escape and for personal time but the comment about training reminded me how much more each run offers us. In addition to pure joy of running, we are logging miles, we are increasing our fitness level and are chipping away at our long term running goals, we are training! Running and training lets us double dip some of the best things in this running life. Heck, why would we ever not run when the chance is before us!
Run, train, enjoy,
