December 16, 2009 - This run was worth the cost!

Yo run gang,

The holiday screws are tightening, with gifts to buy, parties, dinners and visitors in addition to the normal job and family requirements. Getting in the daily run feels like lying, cheating and stealing, that is, until you get out the door! Once into the rhythm of the run, breathing in the cold fresh air and breaking into an honest sweat with your senses alive and the smoke clearing from your mind, finally comes the realization that this run was worth the cost!

My wife and I cheated the weather last weekend and went south for a quick holiday visit to my folks and in-laws in Florida and to sneak into the Green Swamp for some warm weather mileage and to tweak the Dances With Dirt course for the February 13th race. Throw in a midwinter break and join the Dirt Crew for a trail half marathon, marathon, relay or ultra in the sun, you will be deserving! Give a present to yourself today, go to www.danceswithdirt.com and commit. Flights to Tampa are a deal and the new Hampton Inn in Dade city is great.

Eat, drink, run and be merry, in any order necessary it to get it done,

July 21, 2010 - Core Truths!

Yo Run gang,

I'm writing this today at a picnic table beachside as we set up for tonight's SOLD OUT Pterodactyl Triathlon! Diggin' summer!

Yesterday I celebrated a wedding anniversary with my high school sweetheart Kathy. I'm sure a shared life of running and triathlons has added some glue to the relationship, I'm a lucky guy.  I also believe it's never to late to apply some fresh shared fitness glue at any stage of the relationship! Speaking of weddings, we have made it a habit to give the gift of running shoes to the bride and groom at many a wedding sharing what has worked for us. Come to think of it, a Running Fit bridal registry might be just the ticket!

How to stay injury free? Core, core, core! To run higher mileage a strong, balanced, flexible body will get you to your goals. As you know, I have a hard time with the non-aerobic side of training but it is essential. Running Fit's own Chelsea and Marie are the queens of core and they invite you to join them at Running Fit 5700 Jackson Rd for classes that will work you to the core! Classes are $40 for 10 sessions or drop in any class for $10, your core will thank you. Classes are Monday 6:30 PM - Tuesday 9:30 AM - Wednesday 6 PM - Thursday 9:30 AM. I warn you, I have been to class and you will work abs, abs in places I never knew I had abs. For core class questions Email This email address is being protected from spambots. Back to work at the beach, it's a tough job but someone has to do it!

2012-05-16 - Hard Choices?

Yo run gang,

Every day we have hard choices to make, here are a couple examples: 1. More time in a warm bed in the morning or wake to an alarm and run out into the cold and dark. 2. Getting home from work, grabbing a cold beverage and snack food then hitting the couch for some tube or lacing up the shoes and dragging our tired, end of the day feeling body out the door for some miles.

I hope I have explained this in a way that shows these really are hard choices. Fortunately, we have become runners and have learned through hard work and from making the hard choices that once we are out the door we will get into the rhythm of the run, our bodies will become warm, fluid and energized, our head will clear and the stress of the day will roll off and leaving us feeling free, alive and clean. We will finish with our self esteem and confidence raised, ready to take on the day or evening in a way no sedentary person can possibly understand. Share the gift, drag a friend out of bed for a run ... perhaps send them this email!

The signs of spring, flowers in bloom and ... new running shoes! I've been running in a fresh pair of Asics Gel Neo 33's and just love them, another reason to make the hard choice to get out the door a bit easier!

Chose the run,

--Randy Step, an admitted obsessed runner ... who still finds these choices hard. The great things in life are never easy, but are always worth it.
